The Garden

The Garden series is influenced by the research of Professor Emeritus of Archaeology at UCLA, Marija Gimbutas, into the Neolithic and Bronze Age cultures of Old Europe. She pioneered the hypotheses of a peaceful, egalitarian society centered on the worship of a Great Goddess.

“The primordial deity for our Paleolithic and Neolithic ancestors was female, reflecting the sovereignty of motherhood. In fact, there are no images that have been found of a Father God throughout the prehistoric record. Paleolithic and Neolithic symbols and images cluster around a self-generating Goddess and her basic functions as Giver-of-Life, Wielder-of-Death, and as Regeneratrix.” - “The Civilization of the Goddess” Gimbutas, Marija (1921-1994)

Putting one deity on a pedestal, whatever the gender can lead to religious fanaticism. However, as a woman, I experience the cycle of death and rebirth firsthand every month. That is merely a ripple of a higher law that governs all life. The more I refuse the linear, perfectionist way of life and embrace the cycle, the more I feel connected to myself and life around me.

We tell and hear stories every day. The stories we choose to believe shape our reality. I believe this planet’s rebirth and healing are heralded by humans who stay curious and go off the beaten path, despite external pressure, ridicule, or criticism. They admit when they are wrong. They embrace feeling lost with patience. These people do their best to choose faith over fear, forgiveness over hate, uncomfortable truth over lies, gratitude over ego, and empathy over judgment. They opt for joy of life over pessimism. Finally, they try to fill their hearts with unconditional, life-giving love and the courage to follow their own path, guided by their hearts’ desire and intuition.

This is not a revolution, but a slow, gradual process for the good of all. It's seeded deeply under the surface, in all of us. It is inevitable and already taking place. The more we deny this, the more difficult it becomes for us. The energy we invest in fear, rejection, and the status quo weakens us and relentlessly comes back to place us on our path.
